The NHS and Local Councils in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire jointly commission a service to provide equipment to local residents to support independent living. This includes items such as specialist beds, chairs, walking aids, moving and handling equipment. The service is available to children and adults who have been assessed by a health or social care professional and who need equipment to enable them to live safely at home. This service does not include the provision of wheelchairs. This service is currently provided by Medequip who are a specialist provider of equipment. The current contract for the service comes to an end in September 2020. The NHS and Councils are planning to work with service users and the service provider to agree a Service User Charter setting out the standards of service which people can expect, and what to do if these standards aren’t met.
