Wellbeing through Nature – Self-Care Course Taster Session

Monday 9th October 2017 – Feed Bristol, Stapleton – 1.30pm- 4.45pm
(For those who cannot make the full afternoon, option to come along to the introductory session between 1.30pm–2.30pm)

Avon Wildlife Trust invites you to experience their Wellbeing through Nature Self-Care Course that ignites behavioural change in people’s wellbeing and connection to nature. The design and structure of the course offers innovative solutions for wellbeing and therapeutic interventions that contribute back to the environment, with sustainable outcomes for both people and wildlife.

Developed in partnership with Michéal Connors from Natural Academy it adopts the Five Ways to Wellbeing and the eco psychological model of self, social and environment that support positive shifts in holistic health. Throughout the course topics on the cognitive triangle of thinking, feeling and behaviour, emotional intelligence and wellbeing are also covered.

Interventions include mindfulness, nature based and sensory activities, practical volunteering, wildlife identification, finishing with reflection and group discussion. 1-2-1 mentoring to support participant’s personal development and progression onto further activities is also undertaken.

We have developed an innovative evaluation method that is a useful tool for the individual and is embedded into the design of the course. Since delivery started in March 2017 – 85% of participants have shown increased improvement across the ten holistic wellbeing questions.

We would like to invite social prescribers, practice resource leads, GP’s, community health professionals, Public Health and other organisations wishing to refer people to social wellbeing activities. This taster session would also be suitable for those with influence in the health sector who wish to get some grass roots understanding of how nature could be more widely incorporated into social prescribing and green care initiatives.

Experience first-hand and learn how the course has supported people to gain skills, build confidence and move towards healthier lives. By the end of taster session you will have met the team and learnt more about the course structure, taken part in some of the interventions provided on the course, have a greater understanding that nature plays an important role for our wellbeing, and a personal boost to you own wellbeing as a great way to start the week!
